The AMA Physician Masterfile contains the universe of physicians, who are uniquely identifiable by an ME number. The AMA Masterfile is a trusted source for physician information and is also a leader when it comes to the breadth and depth of information available about physicians. Data available as selection criteria include specialty, practice setting, medical training information, and more.

The AMA Physician Database is derived and maintained by the AMA through physician surveys, medical school rosters, publication mailings, licensing and specialty boards, hospitals, government service branches, and the National Residency Matching Program.
